So there we have it: a short stroll and a little history, and much omitted as being beyond the scope of these pages.

For example:

What about the musicians, pipers and poets of Rothbury, or the Music Festival, the annual fairs or the hirings?

What happened during the war. Bombs, pill boxes, POW camp?

Where were the Studio Cafe or inns such as the Rifleman, Malt Shovel or Fighting Cocks located?

What about the great snow storm of 1888 or the Rothbury train crash of 1897? For that matter what about the Rothbury railway?

What about the 'free the geese' campaign of 1999 or the long running dispute between the bowling club and the British Legion lasting 27 years: and ending  in 1954

There have been perennial discussions on road safety, parking charges, yellow lines and housing?

There was a proposal to elect a mayor of Rothbury: and a councillor who offered. to buy the mayoral chain? Wishful thinking?

What happened to many of the local clubs and groups. The Amenity Society, the Mechanic's Institute and others long since defunct.

And sports:
Tennis, bowls, golf, quoits, cricket and football: not to mention the Shrove Tuesday football match between Thropton and Rothbury, played on the moors at Debdon and discontinued in 1867.

And what of the future?

Well: there is a proposal to buy or lease land near the river and a skate board park has been suggested; a project of which not everyone is in favour.

House building continues apace in Rothbury, with many houses and flats either just completed, in progress or projected for the immediate future:

99 at Addycombe

21 at Wagtail

 24 at Town Foot
18 at Coplish Lane 19 at the Mart Field 4 on Hillside West
5 at Blaeberry Hill Cottage Hospital converted to flats

And there is a continuing rumour that  the Coquetvale hotel is to be converted to flats

With the new unwanted Unitary Authority thrust upon an unsuspecting populace what will happen to the old parish Council?

One thing is certain, whatever the future:

Rothbury is set to expand.
