Market Cross

The original Market Cross was erected in 1722 and was a square building with a roof and four open sides. It was designed to afford  shelter to those attending the weekly market. However by 1827 the building, showed its age and was considered dangerous. and was demolished.  In 1902 a cross was erected on the same spot in the memory of Lord & Lady Armstrong,
