Community Lights

In 2008 Rothbury Projects developed an ambitious plan to provide a lighting system to the the High Street and central Rothbury.

This required major works to install electric supply points in strategic areas. The plan was to install six points in the centre that would be used to support existing events as well attracting new ones for the benefit of the village and increased tourism.  A supply stanchion was also to be installed close to the Armstrong Cross in preparation for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lord Armstrong.

Part of the initiative was to upgrade the existing Christmas lights to safe low wattage modern ones and extend them throughout the village. This would create a feel good factor in the sombre days running up to the festive season and provide a focal point for the Christmas Shopping season by having a grand switch on in line with other towns in Northumberland. Business would increase and visitors encouraged.

But all this costs a great deal. Estimates for this project were £33,500 and thanks to the work of many people over the year, substantial progress has been made. Funds for the supply and stanchions have been received and some new lights will be in place for the Festive season.

More funds are required for the lights and anyone wishing to contribute may leave donations at the Queens Head, Rothbury Family Butchers. or in any of the collection boxes in the village.

Rothbury Community Lights would like to thank all those who have contributed  both time, events  and donations and If anyone has been omitted please contact Roz Tinlin  by e-mail or phone 01669 620577.

This  is truly a community project.
