Dear Sir,
ROTHBURY RECREATION HUT.
In your issue of the 17th March 1944, you kindly inserted a letter from me, as Honorary Secretary of the Rothbury & District Branch of the British Legion, in which I, on behalf of the Branch, questioned the claim of the Rothbury Recreation Club to ownership of the hut used by the club.
At that time, the ownership of the Club Hut was in dispute.
Later however, I found that in a document called an "Instrument of Dissolution" of the Rothbury Comrades of the Great War Club, and dated the 30th day of April 1924, it was stated "The assets are to be handed over to the Recreation Club Rothbury and the Ex-Service Men are to be "admitted to the Membership of the Recreation Club at a reduced subscription and have a voice in its management."
In view of that document, I gladly withdraw in to my letter of the 17th March 1944, with the exception of the last paragraph which stated that the local members of the British Legion would always work in harmony with the other sections of the Club in furthering its welfare.
Finally, I now officially, as the Honorary Secretary of the local Branch of the Legion, concede to the Recreation Club its undisputed right to the sole legal ownership of the hut and other assets comprising the Recreation Club property, my Branch being happy to continue to work as a Section of the parent body for the Club's continued prosperity.
Yours faithfully
(Signed) GEORGE CARR
